Balancing forces
Galleria Huuto Uudenmaankatu

Balancing forces is a 2-channel video installation based on two parallel, corresponding stories of an archer and a tightrope walker.

The archer stands firmly on the ground, holding the power of releasing the tension and activating energy.
The tightrope walker balances his body on the thin line. Weightless and suspended above the ground.

A state of balance can be obtained when different elements are equal or in the correct proportions.

The work explores a situation where relation between competing forces is reflected through the mutual impact of the protagonists’ actions. The tension of their metaphorical relationship fluctuates between an unconscious desire for domination and a natural ability to counteract conflicts.

Ewa Gorzna is a visual artist working mainly with video and video installation. She earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland (2006) and the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (2011). Since 2007 she has lived and worked in Helsinki.
